The Challenge

A beloved Oregon family restaurant since 1979, Izzy’s Pizza closed down all facilities during the pandemic. Four years later they were still closed, but we kept up with fans on social media and used their active Facebook community to push ownership to reopen the restaurant in any way possible.

Staging the comeback of a northwest icon.

The Solution

Izzy’s owners weren’t ready to reinvest in a full brick and mortar location. Haloumi created the Izzy’s Time Machine, a food truck we could bring to all the big events and venues across the state. Bringing back the branding from 1979, we rooted the brand in its classic identity while still giving us space to refresh the look.

We made it Facebook Official.

Refreshing the Brand

Since no files existed of the original branding, we rebuilt the Izzy’s logo based off archival footage and any visuals we could get our hands on. Once we had updated the primary logo, we created alternate versions for the Time Machine food truck and our launch at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Campaign

To reignite the fanbase, we posted a curated collection of Izzy’s ads, taking our audience on a journey through the decades. The campaign teased the return and built anticipation, leading perfectly into our Time Machine. We took this time to engage with fans in the comment sections, showing Izzy’s community that we are in this together.

The Izzy’s fanbase is loyal. They are active. And they were really fun to interact with as we lived in the comment section of our teaser posts leading up to the launch.

For the launch day we created stickers, banners, pennant flags, and other swag to commemorate the event, as well as giving golden tickets to some of our most loyal customers. To create the hats and t-shirts, we partnered with New Avenues Ink, a local print shop that provides paid internships and career mentorship to young adults experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

The Results

Izzy’s Time Machine food truck premiered at a minor-league ballpark in Oregon, the perfect match for 70’s nostalgia. Serving pizza and other iconic buffet items, we had long lines of customers new and old. Since then, we’ve been to the Oregon State Fair and are continuing to make the rounds across Oregon, visiting with fans in every part of the state.
